The Overflow of Thanksgiving

I wrote this several years ago when I realized what a priviledge it is to be able to praise God with a whole heart. It means I have eyes to see his beauty. It means that my heart is full enough to overflow with thanksgiving.

O Sweetest Joy

O, great and glorious God and King
Let earth and heaven with praises ring.
For you alone deserve such praise.
We therefore loud Hosannas raise!

From dawn to dusk, from east to west
Let saints in adoration rest,
And everywhere and everyplace
Declare your love and boundless grace.

How excellent, how kind, how good
Is our risen Lord. Our food!
Our drink, our hope, our life, our joy!
So, leap and sing, and praise employ!

Spread his glories far and wide!
Tell it all and nothing hide!
His birth, his death, his risen form,
His life has made the dead re-born.

Day and night do not give rest,
But shout, and to his grace attest.
O sweetest joy that I should get
To bear his praise upon my lips!
